“Yoga for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals” was the topic of the second International Day of Yoga. Over 30,000 people attended a large-scale yoga protest headed by Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in Chandigarh. One of the highlights was the 150 Divyang Jan and the Prime Minister performing yoga. 192 United Nations Member States commemorated the International Day of Yoga in 2016.

The theme of the third International Day of Yoga was “Yoga for Health.” Over 51,000 yoga lovers participated in a public yoga demonstration organised by Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in Lucknow.

With 50,000 volunteers, the 4th International Day of Yoga was organised in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, under the direction of Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. “Yoga for Peace” was the theme for the fourth IDY.

Ranchi, in the state of Jharkhand, hosted the fifth International Day of Yoga. In front of more than 40,000 people was the honourable prime minister, Shri Narendra Modi. The fifth IDY’s theme was “Yoga for Heart.”

The 6th International Day of Yoga-2020 topic, “Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family,” emphasised the value of doing yoga at home with family while adhering to social norms. Millions of people worldwide, including in India, took part in the digital format.

The Ministry of Ayush, in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, planned a global celebration of the 9th International Yoga Day (2023) that involved 100 days, 100 cities, and 100 organisations worldwide from March 13 to June 21, 2023. The campaign’s goal was to increase people’s awareness of and practice of yoga across the country in order to enhance their health and wellbeing.
